How we source, verify, and correct.

Research-based guides

Every guide on Smoke & Sear is a research-based buying or method page, not a product review. Facts that affect a decision or a safety step are checked against public sources: manufacturer documentation and specifications, USDA FSIS food-safety materials, Cooperative Extension material, and trade-association resources. Each guide records its sources.

What we do not publish

We do not publish invented field tests, fabricated reviews, unverifiable claims, or content written to rank for keywords without supporting evidence. Temperature and food-safety guidance follows USDA frameworks rather than brand endorsements, and we do not claim testing we have not performed.

Corrections

If a source changes, a manufacturer updates a specification, or we find an error, we update the affected guide and record the change date when one is available. For a correction, use the contact page and include the page address, the exact statement, and the source to check.

Advertising independence

Google AdSense is separate from editorial content and does not decide what we publish. The site does not currently use affiliate links. Any future commercial relationship will be disclosed on the affected page.
